Includes broadsides (1859-1860) for sale of Lee's slaves at auction, many at Ryan's Mart on Chalmers Street in Charleston, S.C. Correspondence, receipts, and agreements (1858-1860) concerning road work in the parish of St. Thomas and St. Denis. Also contains documents from the office of Charleston Quartermaster (1864-1865), and official correspondence (1864-1865) concerning supplies, transportation, and medical services from South Carolina cities and towns of Adams Run, Georgetown, Columbia, Greenville, Florence, Hardeeville, Grahamville, and Charleston and from N.C., Ga., Ala., and Fla. Correspondents include Edward Willis, H.L. Fielden, and others. Included is one letter (Nov. 12, 1864) regarding Union prisoners-of-war complaints of poor treatment and the lack of proper shelter in Columbia.
